The Dublin Painting and Sketching Club, 141st Annual Exhibition 29th April - 12th May 2019
Doreen Dunne was born in Nottingham and raised in Wales. She gained a scholarship to study art at the Ruskin School of Art, in the Ashmolean Building of Oxford University, where sculpture was her chosen subject. Doreen came to Ireland following her marriage. Trained as a sculptor, she was also a very talented painter and furthered her studies with Kenneth Webb. The landscape of Connemara was one of her favourite subjects. Doreen joined the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club in 2001 and over the years she exhibited paintings in oil, acrylic and mixed media. Her work was noted for its strong design, subtle colour and innovative texture. Doreen exhibited her work in the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Oireachtas exhibitions, as well as in the Image Gallery in Dublin and the Mall Gallery in London. In recent years she returned again to sculpture, producing beautiful small pieces in bronze, which, while not eligible for the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club exhibition, were exhibited widely in Ireland, including in the annual outdoor exhibitions at the National Botanic Gardens. James Flack was born in Co. Armagh but lived most of his life in Co. Kildare. He was an accomplished watercolour painter, whose themes included landscapes and seascapes with details of nature, and flower studies. His paintings were hung in the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Oireachtas exhibitions. James held regular one-man exhibitions throughout the country, including exhibiting annually at the Wexford Opera Festival and Kilkenny Arts Week. He also exhibited in Canada and the United States. His work features in many public institutions and private collections at home and abroad. As well as being a member of the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club, he was also a member of the Watercolour Society of Ireland, the Ulster Watercolour Society, the Dublin Art Society and the Association of Kildare Artists. Richard E McEvoy was a much-esteemed member of the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club since 1993. He was on the Committee for many years, during which time he served terms in the positions of Hon Secretary and President. Richard was a fine painter in oils, pastels and watercolour. Cityscapes were his favourite genre but nudes, portraits and still life also featured in his output. He exhibited in the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Royal Ulster Academy, the Oireachtas, Iontas, National Small Works and National Portraits Awards Exhibitions, and is represented in public and private collections in Ireland and abroad. As Hon Secretary Richard steered the Club into the digital age, by computerising administrative activities and records. Memorials
